The residence permit, step by step
The part of settling in that causes the most anxiety. It isn't hard so much as interdependent — when one step slips, the chain stops.

Immigration rules change, and this article is not legal advice. The sequence below is here so you understand the process; always verify current requirements and fees with the Lithuanian Migration Department (migracija.lt) or the consulate.
I don't provide regulated immigration advice. What I do is guide the order of documents, plan appointment timing and accompany you where needed.
What the sequence looks like
1. Admission letter. Everything starts here; the process doesn't begin without formal admission.
2. Preparation. Collecting a valid passport, health insurance, proof of sufficient means and accommodation details.
3. Application. Whether you apply from Türkiye or after arriving in Lithuania depends on nationality and current practice — this is the first question to settle.
4. Appointment and biometrics. Appointment calendars fill up seasonally; early September is the tightest period.
5. Processing time. Know in advance what your entry and stay status is while a decision is pending.
6. Card collection. If approved, the residence card is collected.
The three most common mistakes
Booking the appointment late. Calendars fill at the start of term. Check appointment availability as soon as your admission letter arrives.
Buying the wrong insurance. Required coverage and duration are defined; a general travel policy may not be accepted.
Leaving proof of funds to the last minute. Find out in advance what format is required and which period it must cover.
After the card arrives
The card alone isn't the end. A few steps follow: declaring your address with the municipality, opening a bank account and completing enrolment with student services.
These feed each other — a bank will usually want your address and residence details. Getting the order right saves doing the same thing twice.
